Mission Statement

For decades, the state of North Carolina has declined to provide students with basic rights. We have been denied healthcare, education, housing, and food. Students have been beaten for protesting a genocide. Our peers and neighbors have been kidnapped off the street by ICE. Students have been shut out of the political process by gerrymandering and discriminatory voting rules.

Enough is enough. Students have power, and when we’re organized, we win. We fought Jim Crow segregation, forced our government to withdraw from Vietnam, and ended US support for South African Apartheid.

We’ll do it again.

The North Carolina Student Union will provide the organizational framework and collaboration necessary to confront these massive threats to the livelihood of young people in North Carolina. NC Student Union’s vision is profoundly anti-capitalist, anti-racist, and feminist. Structurally, NC Student Union is composed of many different preexisting student organizations. Our goal is to organize high school and college students in North Carolina to advance young people’s demands – and fight for a better world.
